Employer Sponsored Visas
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) subclass 187 visa is designed for employers to address skill shortages in regional and low population growth areas, this includes the whole of South Australia and Western Australia.
The RSMS visa is available to skilled workers from inside or outside of Australia. There are three main streams when applying for this visa:
-
Direct Entry - for those who wish to apply directly for Permanent Residence from inside or outside Australia.
-
Temporary Resident Transition - For those who have been working inside Australia, with the same employer, in the same position, for at least 3 years while holding a 482 visa.
Agreement stream - For those nominated by an employer through a labour agreement.
Skilled workers can apply through the RSMS program if they:
-
Agree to live and work in regional Australia (any areas outside of the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne)
-
Have been nominated by an approved Australian employer located in regional Australia
-
Are under 45 years of age (exemptions apply)
-
Meet the skills, qualifications and English language requirements.
In some circumstances, it is possible to obtain a waiver of these requirements.
When applying for 'direct entry', the application needs to be approved by the 'regional certifying body'. The criteria for each body is different and will need to be addressed.
